Everyone,

As people return from vacation here are some updates:

1) PCR 31, 36, 37 voting results

PCR 31: 3 Accept, 0 reject, 0 abstain
PCR 36: 3 Accept, 0 reject, 0 abstain
PCR 37: 1 Accept, 1 reject, 1 abstain
Comments around 37 indicate that PCR38 would be a better solution

Based around this information I suggest that we include PCR 31 and 36 into the CIGI 4.1 update but leave out PCR 37 for now. If people agree / disagree then please use this thread for discussion.

2) CIGI 4.1 Product nomination

After some discussion with Grant (our Standards Activity Committee TAD) we plan to initiate the 4.1 product nomination in the very near future. We have a significant military end-user group who as a result of research over the past few months is interested in specifying CIGI4 for all IG acquisitions across their community. So after 5 years of CIGI 4.0 we would like to make the long planned minor version update available to support this initiative which will most likely have a significant effect on the uptake of CIGI compliant IGs. The plan is that CIGI 4.1 would incorporate all extant PCRs but would not change the fundamental way CIGI works unlike the CIGINext initiative which would involve far more radical changes.

If you / your organization are interested in being associated with the product nomination and supporting the associated work (which we would hope to take between 6 and 9 months) you will be able to register as a proponent when we make the draft available on the discussion board; with relatively minor changes we will be looking to 'fast-track' the effort with a high-tempo activity in the drafting group and so it would be useful to ensure that you have the support of your organization to ensure work in editing and submission for balloting is rapid.

3) CIGI 4.1 Product nomination drafting volunteer

I have had one person volunteer to get involved with generating the product nomination, if anyone else wants to help please let me know on this thread or privately by email.

4) CIGI at I/ITSEC

We are planning to have a group meeting at I/ITSEC. Please watch out for more details on this. For those who are interested Grant and I will be doing a joint paper / presentation around the use of standards in training simulator acquisition which will include CIGI4 being used in a land vehicle simulator IG (many of you will be aware of Roland's work in this area)

Simon
