Because other COIN aircraft already exist, no need to cause trouble and create a new category. I would therefore just place these under CAT 2 if that's their primary purpose. Note that you could, if you wanted, create a trainer version under CAT 40 and then make this CAT 2 a variant of it, or vice versa. If you only need the COIN version, though, that is certainly not needed, but it's an option for the future as more variants are used. A variant may be from a simple CAT in the same country code; it need not be from another country code.

Although I think adding "Sparrowhawk" to the name would help for the future as folks do a search on it, that is not really needed by me.

I therefore recommend approval of 3863 as is.

It looks like these are being built and used.

They have been developed from the LASTA (which are a training aircraft), but have been heavily modified to carry a lot of weapons.

They are being used in a Counter Insurgency role.

I have noticed that we currently do not have an air category for counter insurgency aircraft. Should we make a new category, and place these under that.

I don't see any reference to this as other than a trainer. I would recommend moving it to CAT 40 and SCAT 2 and changing the name to "UTVA Kobac (Sparrowhawk)"

Another option is to put it under the LASTA, which this link says it is a variant of:

Recommend approaval of "CR03863 - CR to add UTVA Kobac" and to put it in the open-future category.

There are many links mentioning "the first prototype flight is planned for 2013", so the development is rather slow.

Since it's under category 2, I assume that you want to add the armed (COIN) variant, mentioned in the link with the text: "And also will be capable of performing close air support, counter insurgency (COIN), and reconnaissance missions."

When the trainer version is ready, it could be added under category 40.
