These two items might be of interest to the survey authors.

1. Reference Question 8 "Nature of Wargaming Interest or Application?" question

"Next-Generation Wargaming for the U.S. Marine Corps: Recommended Courses of Action", by Yuna Huh Wong, Sebastian Joon Bae, Elizabeth M. Bartels, Benjamin Smith, RAND, https://www.rand.org/pubs/research_reports/RR2227.html

Although done for the USMC, this project surveyed and interviewed a wide range of DoD wargamers and wargaming organizations.

The paper has some lists that might be of interest to the survey authors: Core Wargaming Tasks (page xiv), Software Tool Ecosystems (page xv), Common Wargaming Terms and Definitions (pages xxv-xxvi), and organizational purpose of wargames (bottom of page 6).

The latter list is:
(1) wargaming for concept development;
(2) wargaming to support capability development and analysis;
(3) science and technology (S&T) wargaming;
(4) senior leader engagement and strategic discussion;
(5) wargaming for operational decisions and plans; and
(6) wargaming for training and education.

2. Reference Likert-type Responses and Likert Scales

"The Likert Scale, What It Is and How To use It", by Katherine Batterton & Kimberly Hale, Phalanx, June 2017, Pp 32--29 (Tracy will post the PDF to the digital library for anyone interested -- I also tried attaching it to this post, let's see if that works).

Note that a single question requesting a Likert-type response is not a Likert scale, and one cannot "do arithmetic" on the ordinal codes used for the responses, neither in general (without an enormous amount of work) does a collection of questions requesting Likert-type responses. This paper described how to construct Likert Scales.

All the best

Stephen
