PRELIMINARY CALL FOR PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS 2001 European Simulation Interoperability Workshop Sponsored by the Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization University of Westminster, Harrow Campus Harrow, Middlesex, UK June 25 - 27, 2001 You are invited to participate in SISO`s First European Simulation Interoperability Workshop (SIW). This workshop will include the full range of modeling and simulation issues, applications, and communities within SISO`s charter. The Workshop will include multiple tracks and special sessions addressing simulation interoperability issues and proposed solutions; tutorials on state-of-the-art methodologies, tools, and techniques; and exhibits displaying the latest technological advances. This Workshop will enable modeling and simulation (M&S) user and technical communities -- especially those in Europe -- to share ideas and experiences, to identify ways to make distributed simulation more effective and efficient, to support the development of appropriate interoperability standards, and to share insights and experiences related to the High-Level Architecture (HLA). As plans develop, additional information about this Workshop will be posted at the SISO web site: http://www.sisostds.org/siw/01Euro/index.htm TECHNICAL EXHIBIT INFORMATION. A limited number of spaces for technical/product displays will be available at the Workshop. Contact information will be posted on the web site when it becomes available. ABSTRACT SUBMISSION INFORMATION. The Workshop invites papers and presentations relating to distributed simulation applications and technologies, interoperability issues and special topics, as listed below. Abstracts will be reviewed and selected for consideration by the SISO Conference Committee and its constituent Forum Planning and Review Panels (PRPs). An ``Author`s Guide`` will be posted on the SISO web site by the time the Detailed Call for Papers is issued. KEY DATES. For planning purposes, here are the expected paper deadlines: Preliminary Call for Papers 15 Mar 2000 Detailed Call for Papers 1 Aug 2000 Abstracts due 1 Dec 2000 Papers due electronically 1 Mar 2001 Papers due in camera-ready form 1 May 2001 2001 Euro-SIW opens 25 Jun 2001 CALL FOR PAPERS INFORMATION SISO invites submission of papers and presentations in each of the areas listed below. Generally, papers and presentations are considered under two major categories: * User Community Forums, which examine and promote topics of interest related to the use, adequacy of available simulation capabilities and new capabilities needed to meet user needs * Specialty Area Forums, which examine and promote current and emerging simulation processes and technology. The track organization of the 2001 European SIW will depend on the nature and content of the specific submissions received. USER COMMUNITY FORUMS User Community Forums focus on topics of interest to users within individual communities and on issues that span multiple-specialty areas. Analysis Interoperability issues and uses of distributed models and simulations for analysis. Research, Development, and Engineering Interoperability issues and uses of distributed models and simulations for Research, Development and Engineering. Test and Evaluation Uses of advanced distributed simulation (ADS) in test and evaluation (T&E), including the incorporation of live entities with virtual and constructive simulations, and with linking historically standalone T&E facilities into distributed simulations. Small Team Training Use of simulations that provide individual, sub-team, and team training to system operators, team leaders, tactical decision makers, and other hands-on users, including applications of both live and virtual simulation in training. Staff-Level Training Issues of simulation in training higher echelon military staffs or their civilian equivalents. Simulation Based Acquisition (SBA) Integration and reuse of distributed models and simulations for systems acquisition, which may span any or all of the areas above. SPECIALTY AREA FORUMS Specialty Area Forums bring together specialists from different communities to discuss interoperability and component reuse issues. Run-Time Infrastructure and Communications HLA Runtime Infrastructures (RTIs) and suggestions for related standards or standard products. Live Interaction The interaction of real-world entities (people, vehicles, et. al.) in interoperable simulations and with interoperability standards. Topics of interest include: Simulated Natural Environment Multi-domain use and reuse of digital representations of the natural environment, including land, oceanic, atmospheric, and space data. Sensor Modeling and Simulation Simulation of environmental effects on sensor systems, issues pertaining to the simulation of sensor systems, and the incorporation of sensor system simulations into other simulations. Federation Development Process Focuses on the process of federation development and execution, on sharing of practical federation development experiences, and on the long-term evolution of a generalized Federation Development Process (FEDEP) for HLA federations. Exercise Management Tools for automating various aspects of the Federation Development Process, including exercise planning, initialization, monitoring, runtime controls, data collection and analysis, visualization, and after-action review. Verification, Validation & Accreditation Methodologies, procedures, and associated techniques for establishing the credibility of federations. Testing Techniques, tools, drivers, and methodologies for testing federations during the development process. Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) Interoperability of simulations that represent systems and activities in the following areas: * Command and control (C2) * Realistic representation of communications, including disruptions * Interfaces between live C4I systems and simulations Information Operations - Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Interoperability of simulations that represent systems and activities in Information Operations and Intelligence collection, processing, and dissemination. Federation Implementation Implementation-level details and ``lessons learned`` in developing useful federations, including the efficiency and effectiveness of federation performance. Vehicle/Weapon System Modeling Development and reuse of weapon/vehicle system simulations, including space, air, ground, and sea environments. Human Decision-Making and Behavior Representation Issues that influence the representation of humans in models and simulations, ranging from providing appropriate interfaces to live humans so that they may act as entities in simulations to automating human decision-making processes. Logistics Supply chain logistics, logistics business practices, and the representation of logistics systems at the national, strategic, operational, and tactical military levels, as well as appropriate aspects of coalition partner, host nation, civilian, and commercial logistics. SITE AND ACCOMMODATIONS. The Workshop will be held at the University of Westminster, Harrow Campus (just north of London). Basic site information is already available via a link at the SISO web site: http://www.sisostds.org/siw/01Euro/index.htm Additional details will be posted as they become available. REGISTRATION. Registration information will be posted on the SISO web site when arrangements are completed. We expect that registration will be handled electronically, similar to registration for the Orlando SIWs.
